China Petroleum Leads Global Energy Sustainable Development with Green Practices

Against the backdrop of accelerating global energy transition, China Petroleum has deeply integrated green development concepts into its global business layout. Through ecological protection innovations, clean energy deployment, and participation in international climate governance, it sets a benchmark for sustainable development in the global energy industry.

In the field of ecological protection, China Petroleum demonstrates scientific governance capabilities in sensitive environments. In Ecuador, China Petroleum has constructed environmentally-friendly cluster well pads in tropical rainforests, implemented clean and green drilling processes, and utilized specialized technologies such as cuttings reinjection, wastewater treatment, and "zero-discharge" drilling fluid systems to reduce total pollutant generation. It has successively established comprehensive environmental management centers, achieving recycling, sorting, and reuse of all solid waste, as well as recovery, reuse, and reinjection of liquid waste. A carbon emission statistics and accounting team was formed to inventory emissions from oilfield construction and production phases, organizing and implementing various carbon reduction measures. The company is systematically promoting the collection and recovery of associated gas, producing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for use by surrounding communities. This not only saves operational costs but also reduces associated gas flaring and direct emissions, minimizing the impact on the tropical rainforest ecosystem.

In the Middle East, China Petroleum is deeply involved in the UAE's Dubai 950 MW photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) hybrid project, which upon commissioning will meet the clean electricity demands of hundreds of thousands of households. In Central Asian markets, it is deploying wind power projects, promoting the integrated development of traditional oil & gas businesses and new energy industries. In the Asia-Pacific region, its Singapore international business unit took the lead in introducing bio-bunkering fuel services in the marine bunkering market, while simultaneously deploying electric vehicle charging stations within its refueling station network, supporting the development of local green transportation systems.

Confronting global climate change challenges, China Petroleum actively participates in international governance. As the only Chinese member of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), it voluntarily signed the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter and established a full-process carbon emission management and control system. In Australia's Arrow Energy project, it innovatively established a three-dimensional carbon governance model encompassing "Management – Accounting – Offset," obtaining 38,000 tonnes of carbon credits for the 2024 fiscal year, providing practical experience for Chinese enterprises participating in international carbon markets. At conferences related to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), it consistently promotes international cooperation on methane emission reduction, demonstrating the responsibility of a conscientious energy enterprise.
